about

"Songs I Made With Poorly Drawn People" is a compilation of songs that were recorded and released by Storm Davis and his crew/group/label/brethren in PDP from 2005-2010.

Q: So, is PDP over then?
A: Nah. We're a social club for gentlemen of leisure. These things endure for centuries; ask the Freemasons (another group who knows how to fix elections). We may not rap for you all the time, but we'll drink your whiskey, flirt with your girlfriend, and watch the Patriots game at your house. Occasionally, one of us will make some new tunes for you (usually Falside). Look at it this way: the early reviewers thought we were Will Hunting, but it turns out we're Chuckie. And so it goes.

Q: What the fuck is PDP?
A: See, that's the reason that this collection exists. For some reason, for many people who listen to Storm Davis music, there's a disconnect between SD and PDP. I hand them a Poorly Drawn People CD, and they become confused. "But when is your next album coming?" they ask. I explain, this is my next album. They repeat the question. Sigh.

I'm proud of these songs, and I want these people to hear them. We tried the other way. Now we'll try it this way.

Q: So do I need this version of songs that were already released?
A: If you have the Poorly Drawn albums "Nothing Stays Gold" (2007), "Shoot For The Stars, Hit The Ceiling" (2008), and "Motion Not Emotion" (2009), then you have these songs. If you're a collector, completist, or are too lazy to create a playlist with the songs in this order, then, yes, you need it. And, if you don't have those three albums, then you need to get them, because the rest of PDP outshine me at every turn. I'm as proud of them as I am of the songs in this collection.

Q: Why is this such an erratic sonic experience for my delicately-trained engineer ears?
A: These songs were mixed and mastered for different projects at different times by different people, so the sound quality and sonic characteristics are also quite different. Just turn it up loud and it'll all work itself out.

Much love to Dox, Reason, Falside, Entity, Educated Consumers, Dusty Frazier, Symmetry, MattyClipz/The Mean, Sterbyrock, DJ Fantis, DJ Merf, and Anime, and to everyone who ever waved the PDP flag with us or for us.

Cas Uno, Esh, and Ams Uno of Labeless Illtelligence, Prolyphic, Jon Hope, DJ Joeywonk, DJ Al Bums, and RADIx all appear on these songs for a reason. Go find their music and give it a listen.

As always, thanks to everyone who ever believed, doubted, dissed, kissed, or listened.
